Dakota Fanning Mystery

Celluloid & Vinyl says: “We officially have no idea what’s going on over at CNN or with Dakota Fanning… They’ve taken the article down and we don’t know why. We don’t know Dakota’s state. The fact of the matter is we have no idea exactly what’s going on. We don’t know anything because CNN won’t post what’s going on or their reasons for removing the article. Maybe she’s in the hospital and things have gone from dire to hopeful. Maybe CNN clamored to be first, but in their haste posted bogus details. Or maybe Dakota has passed away and for some reason her family or the movie studios or the scientologists or someone doesn’t want the news to break just yet. We. Don’t. Know.

Here is the screenshot taken off CNN’s site courtesy of Celluloid & Vinyl: (I edited it and brought out the part announcing Dakota Fanning’s untimely(?) death):

Dakota Fanning

The captioned text under her picture states:

Mystery shrouds the cause of death for lovable actress Dakota Fanning. At only 12 years old, Dakota had starred in several movies, including last summer;s blockbuster “War of the Worlds.” She is survived by her parents Joy and Steve Fanning and sister Elle.

Wow! I really hope this is not true! I hope this is a HUGE mistake on CNN’s part – - or, even better, someone’s really SICK idea of a photoshop joke. Bad. Bad!

What do you think?

I hope it’s not true, but I saw a similar story over at historymike’s site wondering the same thing.

She really was too young and talented to leave us.

  2. John Hayes says:

I saw something on Fox News I believe.

  3. John Hayes says:

I believe I noticed something on Fox earlier. Maybe they were all trying to beat each other than re-tracked the news.

  4. John Hayes says:

Fox News posted something briefly I believe.

  6. That’s the bizarrest thing…if it’s true why is so quiet.

  7. albert says:

I saw it on Fox News too. Maybe CNN posted by accident and Fox followed suit. I never saw it on CNN though. Has anyone heard anything from Dakota’s people?

  8. Vliam says:

    You people are stupid.

Do a google search for site:cnn.com

    Click cached.

The headlines are the same including the market numbers for Thursday’s closing.

    *sigh*

  9. Diva says:

So that’s the cache for Thursday – - what about April 10th’s cache? That would be the cache for yesterday – which, according to the screenshot, was when it was published.

Not saying it’s true – - just wonderin’ . . maybe the C&V site made the whole thing up? ;)

  10. Realist says:

Seriously, if Dakota had died, wouldn’t it be pretty big news by the next day?

Please reference Abe Vigoda, Will Ferrell, Damon Wayons.

Nice photoshop you’ve got here, by the way.

I sound like a dick, but passing around rumors about a little girl dying is ridiculous.

  11. Diva says:

Could be photoshopped – I dunno here’s where I got it originally.

Not my intention to pass around rumors.. just askin’ questions. You’re right – it’s mostly likely not true. By now, you’d think it’d be breaking news if it were – - if that’s the case, then yea .. I completely agree that 1.) if it’s a joke someone started it’s in horrendous taste and/or 2.) If it’s a mistake on CNN’s part – - well, MAJOR OOPS!

  12. Diva says:

Ahh, Realist.. i see what you mean now by the Thursday Stock ticker.. didn’t get that part before. Call me slow. Seems like this is a hoax and shame on me for even slightly buying into this.

  13. *Hello says:

I heard that cnn didnt post this thing about Dakota Fanning.Someone else did this with some kind of technology like photoshop or something like that.Theres proof that cnn didnt post this.At the time this thing was posted(death of Dakota Fanning) for real there was a news about America protesting about immigrants!cnn didnt do anything wrong…atleast thats what i heard:)

  14. ARamos says:

I heard in a channel in Spain that she died

  15. sighting! says:

Ms. Fanning has been spotted this week in suburbs 20 min. from the city of Detroit. Enjoying her life, seeing friends, being a child with no complications of Hollywood. The children had spring break last week and this week, depending on the school dist. I am hoping this can be a positive confirmation. If anyone from the Detroit area can confirm, it may ease some people’s minds as for that strangs blog that surfaced last week of Ms. Fannings passing.

  16. Helsy says:

Isn’t it strange how only Celluloid and Vinyl had that screenshot? OBVIOUSLY THEY DID IT! Past friday I saw in the news “actress Dakota Fanning died for 15 minutes” but that’s all they said, they just showed a photo of her crying, then I went on vacations and returned yesterday, I started looking in Google to see what happened and I saw all this. Of course she didn’t die! Everybody would be talking about it! I mean it’s not like CNN posted that and then the parents said: ‘hey take it off!’ Duh! Plus only Celluloid and Vinyl saw it… LIARS!!! Besides, she just turned 12 on February 23rd is not like she’s gonna die ¬¬… WE LOVE DAKOTA!!! visit my fotolog of Dakota and her sis Elle:

    kisses,
    Helsy

  17. Steve says:

Vliam: The point is this: Even though it was a patent hoax, it should have been condemned and refuted instantly by CNN and, especially, by Dakota’s agents. Look at what Aramos said. This story made it’s way to Europe! You and I may be sophisticated enough to spot an internet fraud, but how about all those kids who love her? There are many millions of them all over the world. Can you imagine how they must have felt upon receiving such news without so much as a rebuttal? This was a sick and sorry thing… but it was abetted by the Osbrink Agency’s unfathomable neglect.

  18. tiffanie says:

she really didnt die did she.. she was a good actress and very talented.. too young to leave us

  19. Steve says:

Tiffanie has just made my point for me. And no, Tiffanie, I’m sure she’s alive and well. It’s just that I can’t understand why her managers weren’t all over the media and the internet saying so. In fact, they should have trotted her out on every TV spot that they could arrange on short notice just to prove it!

  20. paw says:

:(( im pretty worried about this..
if u guys know more about ths pls let me
    know..! thx

  21. moomoo says:

DAKOTA FANNING IS AWSOME AND I LOVE HER:x:x

  22. Steve says:

She’s definitely alive and well. She was at the Saturn Awards (for sci-fi films) and won the award for “Best Frightened Performance”(!!!) on May 7th. Considering all the “fright” some of her fans have been through, I guess that was only appropriate. The good news is… she beat out Paris Hilton for the trophy. Always a good thing to hear!

  23. Jenny says:

I hope it’s not true,… i’m really worried. In my mind I’m hoping it’s not true. It just can’t be…. Does anyone think their any chancethat it’s not?… If any one knows e-mail mke at sweetcuddles_julia@yahoo.co.uk… or if anyone knons how she died… I’m so worried, but I feel their’s hope, we can’t lose her.:((^:)^

  24. Steve says:

Jenny: For God’s sake, don’t worry! It was a complete fabrication. Just a few days ago she, along with Tim Russert and General Colin Powell (!), called in live to the “Today Show” to congratulate that Katie Couric character, who’s leaving the show for another network(!!). Dakota apparently likes her because they went horseback riding in Central Park while she was promoting her “Dreamer” movie. She’s just fine… even if her choice of friends can be somewhat questionable!

  25. Are you sure she is alive and well, Steve?8-|[-o<

  26. Steve says:

Samantha: On the network link to “Good Morning America”, they had a number of celebrity callers-in to Katie Couric. It was a kind of testimonial for her on her last week with the show before going to another network!!! Dakota called in. There was no video, but all there seemed to accept it as her. They should know!

Besides, that CNN “death notice” that started it all was a proven hoax within a day of it’s being posted.

  27. rachel says:

dakota fanning is da best and she is sooooooooooo talented!xxx
